The Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State on Thursday expressed support for the bid of its candidate in the 2018 governorship election, Prof Kolapo Olusola, to reclaim his alleged stolen mandate at the Supreme Court.
The Ekiti PDP stakeholders, who said the 2019 elections in the state were characterised by irregularities, expressed support for the PDP candidates in the state, who were seeking redress at the election petitions tribunals in the state.
These were contained in a communique at the end of the stakeholders’ meeting in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
Olusola, who rejected last week’s Appeal Court judgment, which dismissed his case, had promised to approach the Supreme Court to get justice.
In the communiqué signed by the PDP state Chairman, Chief Gboyega Oguntuwase, and Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo, the party also praised “the resilience of the leadership of the party at the national level in giving total support to the presidential candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in retrieving his stolen mandate.”
The PDP said it viewed its loss in the 2019 elections “as one of the issues affecting political parties in a democracy, especially where transparency and all other tenets of democratic processes were bastardised.”
The PDP stakeholders mandated local government party leaders “to henceforth put their house in order and encourage party members to embark on rejuvenating the party through regular meetings and political activities.”
The communiqué read, “The PDP expressed total support and belief towards the appeal and recovery of the Olusola mandate at the Supreme Court.
“The party expressed total support for all our candidates in the last general elections who are seeking redress in tribunal as regards the various electoral malpractices perpetrated by the APC.
“The leaders commended the state working committing of the party for being able to function under the terrible situation created by the APC Federal Government and the effort of the party to reconsolidate after the turbulence.
“The party commends the resilience and courage exhibited by former Governor Ayo Fayose in the face of unjust harassment and intimidation by the Federal Government using the EFCC.”
